Why did you choose to work in the sales field?

While meeting sales targets usually comes with financial reward, also mention other reasons why you enjoy working in a sales role. For example, you enjoy socializing and building relationships with people, you love to listen to customers and solve their problems, or you like the challenge of meeting sales targets.

What makes a good salesperson?

This is where you list all of the qualities of a successful sales professional, and it will show whether you have the confidence in your ability to succeed in the role. It is important to show that you are passionate about the field; proving that you know what it takes to excel at being a sales professional. Can you think about what the core objective of a salesperson is? Understanding a business, a person, the challenges they face, and how your product can help.

Tell us about a time when you lost a sale

Here you have to show resilience. Not every prospect will not become a paying customer, and it is inevitable that there will be people who waste your time or are simply not needing your product/services. You have to show that you are prepared for this and display optimism, using every loss as a learning curve and you can keep going. Tell a story about a time when you didn’t meet your sales target or lost a specific deal, how you have learned from it, and how you grew to become a better salesperson over time with experience.

Do you usually meet your sales targets?

Here, the interviewer is looking to get a glimpse into how you will perform. You should have your sales record in hand, ready to share. You should be truthful in how you answer, but be optimistic If there was a period where you didn’t reach your target, but explain how you came up with a new plan. Talk about your motivation to succeed and how you achieved positive results.
